What to Expect When Living at Home During a Cast Iron Pipe Replacement

pipe replacement services

Choosing pipe replacement services doesn’t mean uprooting your life. There’s no reason to move out. At In-House Plumbing Company, many homeowners in Allen, Texas, and surrounding areas choose to stay in their homes during an old cast iron pipe replacement, and we design our underground pipe replacement process to be as smooth as possible.

Noise and Accessibility

We typically arrive between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and aim to finish for the day around 5:00 PM, but depending on the job and conditions, we may work later — sometimes several hours later. Our schedule is designed to keep your job moving efficiently, even if it means long days for our crew. We do our best to keep noise to a minimum, but as with any construction project, some disruption is possible.

Inside access may be needed occasionally throughout the job. We ask that you ensure clear access to all bathrooms, the kitchen sink, and the washer area, as we may need to inspect, work on, or confirm connections during different phases of the work.

Water Use and Interruptions

We won’t shut off your water for the entire duration of the job, but there will be times when you won’t be able to use water or flush toilets — especially while we’re connecting the new PVC system and waiting for inspection. Our crew will do their best to give you a heads-up before these interruptions so you can plan accordingly. In extremely rare cases where the plumbing work isn’t complete by the end of the day, we work to ensure you have at least limited water use until the next day.

Cleanliness and Safety

Our cast iron to PVC conversion work often involves significant excavation under the slab or in the yard. We typically lay plastic on the ground before moving dirt to help protect the surrounding area.

That said, because of the nature of underground pipe replacement, our crews will need to move through various areas around your home — both inside and outside — to access different parts of the system. Occasionally, we may need to create an access hole inside, though this is rare.

We don’t necessarily clean up at the end of each day, but we work to avoid unnecessary mess and keep things as organized as possible throughout the process. A thorough cleanup is completed once the job is finished.

Timeline and Cost Transparency

Most jobs wrap up in 3–5 business days. Projects are organized and predictable, especially compared to ongoing spot repairs or drawn-out jobs. And while cast iron pipe replacement cost is typically higher than patching, this all-in-one solution usually costs less overall when you factor in avoiding multiple repairs later.

Choosing a full underground pipe replacement keeps your plumbing and your household running with minimal interruption.
